Balltribe’s First Contest for Cash is Live!

February 2011 is now behind us, so with BallTribe.com’s first month in the books we are now ready to launch our first of many big features for users, the Monthly Leaderboard Contests.

We are happy to announce that we will be giving away a prize each month to our Top 3 Ball Tribe Users for that particular month. From time to time we may give away sponsored prizes as the opportunities present themselves, but on a more regular basis the prizes will be cold hard cash! We have set up a separate tab (see right) called “Contest” where you will find a ranking of the Top BallTribe.com Users for the current month. This list of rankings is updated hourly.

How are points and rankings calculated?

The leaderboard contest points are generated as follows: Hot News (popular) = 20, Submissions = 3, Comments = 3, Votes = 1

Therefore, the best thing you can do to score more points and help yourself move up the leaderboard is to submit really high quality stories that have the best chance to get voted by the community as popular and therefore promoted to the BallTribe.com’s “Hot News” section on the home page (20 points). However, asking your friends who you think would have an interest in your submission to vote for it will also help to bolster your votes and give your submission a greater chance to get promoted to “Hot News”.

We also want to encourage users to contribute to the community discussion, as that’s what sports blogging is all about right? So don’t sleep on the commenting aspect of the contest, as you can score 3 points for every comment you make on other people’s submissions!

What are the prizes?

1st Place – $100

2nd Place – $50

3rd Place – $25

The prizes are not huge, but they are substantial enough to help pay for a sports bloggers server/hosting fees, freelance writers, promotions, or anything else you can think of. But hey, we aren’t here to tell you how to spend your contest prize.

Users only have till the end of March to score points for this month’s contest, so don’t waste any time, get submitting, voting, commenting, and sharing your submissions for votes! Please see our leaderboard contest page for details of the rules and restrictions.
