Philadelphia Flyers/Buffalo Sabres Playoff Preview Part 3: Goalies | Get Flyer'd Up

History tells us that having an elite goaltender is, in most cases, something all teams need to win a Stanley Cup. Aside from last seasons Cup Final which saw AHL-lifer Michael Leighton, and rookie Anti Niemi face-off against each other.

On the road toward the Stanley Cup, the Flyers have put their faith in rookie goaltender, Sergei Bobrovsky. Opposing him for Buffalo, will be what most would consider an elite goaltender in Ryan Miller.

While Bobrovsky will be thrown into the playoff fire, Miller will look to put the 2010-11 regular season behind him. Miller’s numbers aren’t bad (34-22-8 2.59 GAA .916 Save %) though, they certainly aren’t the type of numbers the Vezina trophy winner is expected to put up. Miller has dealt with some injuries throughout the year, including an upper-body injury toward the end of the season. The Sabres and Miller have given no indication that he won’t be ready for the playoffs. However, Miller did not play in the Sabres last two regular season games, an attempt to rest him, so , he could come into the playoffs a bit rusty.
