Jon Gruden Reportedly Talking to Raiders About Return to NFL

Jon Gruden's name has been floating around for a while now as coaching positions have started opening up.Now he's reportedly talking to the Oakland Raiders, according to Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly, via Dan Bernstein of WSCR.Bernstein tweeted on Tuesday:
. @hub_arkush of @profootballwkly just told @boers_bernstein that Jon Gruden and the #Raiders are in talks to bring him back to Oakland.— Dan Bernstein (@dan_bernstein) December 4, 2012
The former Raiders coach, who was in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, has served as a color commentator on Monday Night Football since 2009 and received a five-year extension from ESPN that began in September. But rumors ranging from the Raiders to the University of Tennessee have people buzzing again about the potential for Gruden to come back to football as a head coach.Gruden won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the year after he left Oakland...against the Raiders. That is something that has always been a point of consternation among Raiders fans. Oakland hasn't made the playoffs since.Obviously, the Raiders would love to have Gruden back, but the chances of them actually landing him still seem relatively slim, given his contract with ESPN and his declarations that he wouldn't leave the network. The Raiders are 3-9 this season and they've lost five straight games, including a loss to the Cleveland Browns last week. They've allowed 31.3 points per game, the worst mark in the NFL. Is "Chucky" headed back to the Black Hole to do some damage?Raiders fans can only hope so after a miserable campaign, as there's been very little good news since his departure.Read more NFL news on BleacherReport.com 695 days
