Florida, Florida State in Sunshine State of Mind After Rivalry Game

Filed under: Florida, ACC, SEC, Florida StateTALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The opening month of the college basketball season is winding down, and both the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles like the direction they are heading in.

Despite its wealth of experience, No. 16 UF relied on its youth in critical stretches of Sunday night's 55-51 victory over FSU at the Tucker Center. It marked the Gators' first victory in the state capitol since 2002 and also helped soothe the sting from their football team's blowout defeat at FSU on Saturday.

The Seminoles, meanwhile, believe they will learn from the mistakes in their first loss of the season and apply it during a quick turnaround in preparation for Tuesday's nationally televised home game against No. 3 Ohio State as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

As FSU coach Leonard Hamilton explained, his team doesn't have time for a pity party.

The Seminoles (5-1) are in the midst of a six-game home stand that also features their Atlantic Coast Conference opener against Clemson in two weeks, quickly followed by a trip to Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic.

"I still think we are a work in progress," Hamilton said. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments 1431 days
