Miguel Cabrera and his problems with alcohol are again making headlines. The Detroit Tigers superstar was arrested for a DUI in Florida late Wednesday night and police allege that it went way past the "one too many beers" variety. From the Associated Press:The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office says the 27-year-old's car engine was smoking alongside a road late Wednesday when a deputy spotted the vehicle.According to the arrest report, Cabrera smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and took a swig from a bottle of scotch in front of a deputy.Police say Cabrera repeatedly refused to cooperate, saying, "Do you know who I am, you don't know anything about my problems. Reading the .pdf of the police report is sad, just like seeing Cabrera smiling in his mug shot. It's quite clear that he has a serious problem when it comes to alcohol. As most of you will remember, this isn't the first time that Cabrera made news for excessive drinking. In 2009, as his Tigers were blowing the AL Central to the Twins, Cabrera showed up at the ballpark with scratches on his face. He blamed the marks on his dog, but it was later revealed that he was taken in for questioning after blowing a 0.26 following a domestic disturbance with his wife. Cabrera spent three months in rehab after the 2009 season and he told reporters in 2010 that he wasn't drinking any more. But this, of course, is a serious setback for both the life of the MVP-caliber player and the season of the team he's expected to help contend in 2011. Said teammate Carlos Guillen to MLB.com's Jason Beck: "I'm in shock, man." 1154 days
