Tiger Woods speaks, announces first European and PGA Tour starts

You want a little Tiger Woods in your life? No worries, because it'll come in just over a week. Woods, currently the No. 3 golfer in the world, announced on his website on Wednesday that he is planning on playing in Abu Dhabi next week, a tournament he co-lead for 54 holes a year ago.
The tournament, held at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, kicks off on January 17, and will have a field that includes Tiger and Rory McIlroy, two guys that played together at this event a year ago for the first three rounds (no word yet if they're paired this time, but if the start of 2013 is anything like the end of '12, expect to see them side by side).

Woods also announced that he will open his PGA Tour season the following week at the Farmers, an event he has won six times and the site of his one-legged U.S. Open victory in 2008.
The news isn't that shocking, except for the fact that he skipped this event a year ago to hit up Abu Dhabi and what most expect was a fairly hefty appearance fee for the biggest draw in the game. Last season was the site of Tiger's battle with Robert Rock, who would eventually win, after sharing the lead with Woods through three rounds.
This year Woods comes in with three PGA Tour wins on record in 2012 and plenty of expectations for '13 (we had him No. 3 on our list of "guys to watch" for this season).
So Rory and Tiger next week, and Tiger and Torrey the week after. Golf season is going to get very interesting very quickly, eh?
